Vladimir Aleksandrovich Fock (22 December 1898 - 27 December 1974) was a Soviet theoretical physicist and mathematician whose name is attached to Fock space, Fock states, and the Hartree-Fock method.
Quantum context
Fock space provides the natural Hilbert-space setting for variable particle number in quantum field theory and many-body quantum mechanics. It organizes states with zero, one, two, or more identical particles in a single mathematical framework.
The Hartree-Fock method is a central approximation in atomic, molecular, and condensed-matter quantum calculations. It connects Fock's name with molecular orbitals, electronic structure, and computational quantum chemistry.
