Satyendra Nath Bose (1894-1974) was an Indian physicist whose work on the statistics of light quanta led to Bose-Einstein statistics. Particles obeying these statistics are called bosons.
Bose's ideas were extended by Albert Einstein and became central to quantum statistical mechanics, photons, condensates, and coherent quantum fields.
