Known for Theoretical physics textbook series

Walter Greiner (29 October 1935 - 6 October 2016) was a German theoretical physicist.[1]

Career and work

Greiner was professor at Goethe University Frankfurt and worked in atomic physics, heavy-ion physics, nuclear physics, elementary particle physics, quantum electrodynamics, and quantum chromodynamics.[1][2]

He became well known for a multi-volume theoretical-physics textbook series that introduced generations of students to classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, field theory, nuclear physics, and related subjects.[1]

In the QFT page he is linked through Gauge Theory of Weak Interactions and, with Joachim Reinhardt, Field Quantization.[3]

Selected works

  • Gauge Theory of Weak Interactions (with Berndt Müller).
  • Field Quantization (with Joachim Reinhardt).
  • Volumes in the Greiner theoretical-physics textbook series.
