Known for Quantum Field Theory textbook

Lowell S. Brown (15 February 1934 - 5 April 2023) was an American theoretical physicist.[1]

Career and work

Brown worked in theoretical physics, with research ranging from quantum field theory to plasma, atomic, and precision-calculation problems.[1][2]

He earned his PhD at Harvard under Julian Schwinger, held positions at Yale and the University of Washington, and later worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he became a laboratory fellow.[1][2]

His advanced textbook Quantum Field Theory is included in the QFT further-reading list for readers seeking a more formal and graduate-level treatment.[1]

Selected works

  • Quantum Field Theory (1994).
  • Research articles in quantum field theory, plasma physics, and precision atomic physics.
