Claude Georges Itzykson (11 April 1938 - 22 May 1995) was a French theoretical physicist.[1]
Career and work
Itzykson worked mainly in quantum field theory and statistical mechanics, with particular attention to symmetry, group theory, lattice gauge theory, matrix integrals, random surfaces, and conformal field theory.[1]
After study at the Lycée Condorcet and the École Polytechnique, he joined the theoretical physics group at Saclay, where he spent much of his career while also holding visiting positions abroad.[1][2]
His 1980 textbook Quantum Field Theory, written with Jean-Bernard Zuber, became a standard graduate reference and remains the reason he is linked from the QFT further-reading list.[1]
Selected works
- Quantum Field Theory (1980), with Jean-Bernard Zuber.
- Statistical Field Theory (with Jean-Michel Drouffe).
